Aaron Hopson, a Defiance local and ‘97 graduate of DHS, has served the area for most of his life. As a firefighter for the community for 15 years and a pastor for over 3+ years, his heart is for deeply connecting with and serving the great people of NW Ohio and beyond. Aaron has been married for over 24 years, has 2 sons, and has dedicated his life to building a lasting legacy for his family.

With over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, I have built my career on helping individuals and families protect what matters most. As an agency owner, I’ve developed a strong foundation in both personal and commercial lines, combining industry knowledge with a hands-on, client-focused approach. I’ve successfully grown and managed my own agency, navigating market changes, building lasting client relationships, and leading teams to deliver reliable coverage solutions. My experience allows me to understand client needs quickly and provide practical, tailored insurance strategies backed by years of real-world expertise. I also have six 300 games in bowling and enjoy bodybuilding. I’m also married with 2 children.

My name is Jason VanAlstine, and I’m a home and auto insurance agent serving Defiance, Ohio with Brightway The Hopson Family Agency.

I bring nearly 20 years of experience in sales and customer service across a wide range of industries, and through all of it, I’ve learned one thing: people don’t want to feel like a policy number — they want to feel heard, understood, and genuinely cared for. That belief is what led me into insurance.

I chose this career not only because it allows me to serve families in practical, meaningful ways, but also because it gives me the flexibility to take part in mission work and serve those less fortunate. Service isn’t a slogan to me — it’s a way of life.
I understand why so many people feel frustrated with insurance. Too often, it feels impersonal and profit-driven. My approach is different. I take the time to educate, to listen, and to make sure you walk away with something many people don’t associate with insurance: peace. Peace about who you talked to, and peace about what you have protecting your home and vehicles.
Outside of work, you’ll find me at church, drawing, riding my motorcycle, or in the gym. These are the rhythms that keep me grounded and connected to my community.

I serve as Agency Manager at The Hopson Family Agency, where my team and I focus on delivering personalized property and casualty insurance solutions to individuals, families, and businesses throughout Northwest Ohio. While I'm new to the insurance industry, I bring a wealth of business acumen and leadership experience to the role, having built and operated several successful businesses across the region.

As a long time business leader I'm passionate about helping clients protect what matters most—their homes, vehicles, businesses, and livelihoods—through trusted guidance and tailored coverage. I lead our agency with a focus on building lasting relationships, providing straightforward advice, and creating a client experience rooted in integrity and genuine care.

I'm deeply committed to the Northwest Ohio community and am an active member of Xperience Church and the Rotary Club of Defiance where I engage with fellow community leaders to support local causes. I also serve on the boards of two organizations close to my heart: PC Workshop, which creates meaningful work opportunities for individuals with developmental delays, and the Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau, which promotes economic growth and tourism in the region.

I live in Defiance with my beautiful wife, Regan, and our beloved pets, Harvey and Chilli. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring the outdoors, and reading—I'm always looking for the next book to sharpen my perspective. With an entrepreneurial spirit, a heart for service, and a commitment to doing right by my clients and community, I'm proud to be part of building something meaningful here in Northwest Ohio.
